Relational Life Therapy (RLT)
Understand your relationship patterns and find healthier ways to communicate
Available in-person in Calgary and virtually across Alberta.
Relationships can have a big impact on how you feel day to day. When the same tensions keep showing up with a partner, family member or colleague, they can leave you feeling stressed, disconnected or burned out. Relational Life Therapy (RLT) helps you look at the patterns you bring into your relationships and how those patterns affect the people around you. Whether you come to therapy on your own or with a partner, we can work toward more balanced ways of relating to others.
And I’m here to support you along the way.
What Is Relational Life Therapy (RLT)?
RLT is an approach to therapy that focuses on how we relate to others, especially when things become difficult. You might notice that you shut down during conflict, take on too much responsibility, struggle to ask for what you need or find yourself having the same conversation without getting anywhere. These responses often make sense in the context of your experiences. But when they become familiar habits, they can affect your relationships and add to your stress.
RLT helps you recognize these patterns and explore what you can do differently.
Together, we can explore:
What tends to happen when you feel hurt, overwhelmed or misunderstood
How you communicate when a relationship feels strained
Whether your boundaries give you enough room to care for yourself
How your relationship habits may contribute to stress or burnout
What might help you respond with greater clarity and care
Is This How You Feel?
RLT can help if you’ve been struggling with some of those challenges:
You keep having the same disagreements with a partner or someone close to you.
You find it hard to say what you need without feeling guilty or starting a conflict.
You take care of everyone else’s needs and feel exhausted by the end of the day.
You withdraw, become defensive or say things you regret when tensions rise.
You feel disconnected from your partner, even when you both want things to improve.
Challenges at work are affecting your life at home, or the other way around.
How Can RLT Therapy Help You?
RLT focuses on helping you understand what happens between you and others, then work on ways of responding that reflect the relationships you want to build.
Depending on your needs and goals, RLT therapy may help you:
Repair disconnection after difficult conversations
Recognize your part in recurring conflicts
Set boundaries without losing sight of the relationship
Respond differently when you feel hurt, stressed or overwhelmed
Create more balanced relationships at home and at work
Communicate more openly and listen with greater understanding
RLT can be useful for individuals and couples. You may want to work on a relationship with your partner, or you may want to better understand patterns that show up across several areas of your life.
The approach is adapted to you. We will focus on the relationships and concerns that matter most to you, at a pace that feels comfortable.
Meet Lara, Experienced RLT Therapist in Calgary
REGISTERED PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST | CANADIAN CERTIFIED COUNSELLOR
Hi, I’m Lara.
I work with people who want to better understand the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be affecting their everyday lives.
Sometimes you know exactly what you'd like to change. Other times, you may simply notice that you keep finding yourself in the same cycle of worry, overthinking, self-criticism, avoidance or stress and you're ready to approach things differently.
My approach is supportive, practical and tailored to you. Through Relational Life Therapy, we can explore how you respond to others, what happens when stress or conflict enters the picture and what healthier ways of connecting might look like in your everyday life.
My background has taken me through different work environments, including photography, hospitals, and now counselling. Along the way, I’ve learned how important it is to listen carefully, understand the bigger picture, and meet people where they are.
Whether you're feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns, overwhelmed by stress, or simply looking for practical tools to help you navigate everyday challenges, we can start there.
I'm glad you're here.
