The Demands of Aviation Don't Always Stay at Work

A career in aviation can be rewarding, challenging and demanding in ways that people outside the industry may not fully understand.

Irregular schedules, long shifts, time away from home, fatigue, constant changes and high levels of responsibility. And then, there’s the need to stay focused and make good decisions, even when you're tired or under pressure.

Whether you're in the flight deck, cabin, tower, hangar, on the ramp or behind the scenes keeping operations moving, the demands of the job can quickly add up. You may be used to handling pressure and getting on with the job. But that doesn't mean you don’t have to deal with stress, exhaustion, anxiety or difficult experiences.

Therapy for aviation professionals can provide you with a confidential space to talk about the challenges of your work with someone who understands the realities of working in aviation.

Is This How You Feel?
Challenges Aviation Professionals Need to Deal With

You may enjoy what you do, but also find that the demands of the aviation job can sometimes affect your wellbeing.

Perhaps you:

  • Feel constantly tired, even when you've had time off

  • Find it difficult to switch off after work or settle into rest

  • Feel anxious before recurrent training, check rides, evaluations or important decisions

  • Carry pressure that you don't feel comfortable talking about with colleagues

  • Feel disconnected from your partner, family or life at home because of time away

  • Struggle with sleep, jet lag, shift work or an unpredictable schedule

  • Have experienced a difficult incident or event that continues to affect you

  • Worry about what seeking mental health support could mean for your career or medical certification

  • Feel burned out, emotionally drained or simply not like yourself

Support doesn't have to start when things become difficult. It can start with simply recognizing that you'd like to feel more balanced, focused and supported in your everyday life.

How Can Therapy Help You?

Therapy for aviation specialists can give you a supportive, confidential space to better understand what is affecting your wellbeing and find practical ways to manage the challenges you're facing.

Together, we can explore the pressures, patterns, and experiences that may be contributing to stress, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed. We’ll focus on what matters most to you and what can realistically fi t into your life and work. The goal is to help you feel more equipped to navigate the demands of your role while making space for your wellbeing, relationships, and life outside of work.

Your work and your life outside of work are unique, so your therapy should be too. We’ll take into account the realities of working in aviation and focus on what feels most relevant and helpful for you.

REGISTERED PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST | CANADIAN CERTIFIED COUNSELLOR

Hi, I’m Lara.

Meet Lara, an Experienced Therapist working with Aviation Professionals

I work with people in aviation who are dealing with the pressures that can come with the job - from demanding schedules and fatigue to performance pressure, career changes, and the challenge of finding balance outside of work.

I know that aviation has its own language, routines, and realities. My goal is to create a space where you can talk openly about what’s going on, without having to justify how you feel. My background has taken me through different work environments, including photography, hospitals, and now counselling. Along the way, I’ve learned how important it is to listen carefully, understand the bigger picture, and meet people where they are.

Whether you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed, stuck, or simply looking for a better way to manage the demands of your work and life, we can start there.

That's who I'm here for. And I'm glad you're here.
