Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Benefit from a proven approach to counselling, overcome anxiety, trauma and more
Available in-person in Calgary and virtually across Alberta.
CBT is based on the idea that lasting change can begin by paying closer attention to the patterns shaping your everyday experiences. Rather than focusing only on what you are feeling, CBT helps you look at what may be maintaining those thoughts, patterns, and behaviours and where change is possible. This makes CBT therapy active, purposeful and focused on helping you move toward meaningful goals.
And I’m here to support you along the way.
What Is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?
CBT therapy is based on the connection between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. The way we interpret a situation can influence how we feel and what we do next.
Sometimes, we develop patterns of thinking or responding that are understandable but no longer helpful. For example, you might assume the worst, be highly critical of yourself, avoid situations that make you uncomfortable or feel stuck in the same cycle of worry.
CBT helps you slow down and look at these patterns from a different perspective.
Together, we can explore:
What thoughts tend to show up in difficult situations
How those thoughts affect your emotions
What you tend to do when you feel stressed, anxious, or low
Whether those responses are helping you in the long term
What other ways of thinking or responding might be more useful
Is This How You Feel?
You may benefit from CBT if you recognize some of these experiences:
You spend a lot of time worrying or overthinking.
Your mind quickly jumps to the worst possible outcome.
You are often hard on yourself or feel that nothing you do is good enough.
You avoid situations because they feel uncomfortable, stressful or overwhelming.
You keep finding yourself in the same patterns, even though you want things to change.
Small problems can quickly start to feel much bigger.
You don't need to identify with every point to benefi t from CBT therapy. Sometimes, simply noticing a pattern that you'd like to understand or change can be a good place to start.
How Can CBT Therapy Help You?
CBT focuses on helping you better understand the patterns that may be keeping you stuck and giving you practical tools to respond differently.
Develop healthier coping strategies
Respond to self-criticism in a more balanced way
Recognize unhelpful thinking patterns
Manage stress, worry and anxiety
Improve problem-solving and decision-making skills
Depending on your needs and goals, therapy may help you:
Reduce avoidance and build confidence in difficult situations
CBT is often an active and collaborative process. We may talk through situations, explore patterns, practise new strategies or identify small steps for you to try between sessions. The approach is adapted to you. We will focus on the concerns that matter most in your life and work together at a pace that feels manageable.

Hi, I’m Lara.
Meet Lara, Experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist in Calgary
I work with people who want to better understand the thoughts, behaviours and patterns that may be affecting their everyday lives. Sometimes you know exactly what you'd like to change. Other times, you may simply notice that you keep finding yourself in the same cycle of worry, overthinking, self-criticism, avoidance, or stress and you're ready to approach things differently.
My approach is practical, supportive, and tailored to you. Using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), we can explore the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and develop strategies that feel useful in your everyday life.
My background has taken me through different work environments, including photography, hospitals, and now counselling. Along the way, I’ve learned how important it is to listen carefully, understand the bigger picture, and meet people where they are. Whether you're feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns, overwhelmed by stress or simply looking for practical tools to help you navigate everyday challenges, we can start there.
I'm glad you're here.
