Your Experience. Your Goals. Your Therapy.
Benefit from a thoughtful and compassionate approach built around what matters most to you.
Available in-person in Calgary and virtually across Alberta.
Maybe you know exactly what's bringing you to therapy. Maybe you just know that something isn't quite working anymore. You may be dealing with stress that has gradually built up. You may feel exhausted from trying to keep up with everything. You may be stuck in patterns of worry or overthinking, or dealing with thoughts and behaviours that are difficult to switch off.
You might be navigating a demanding career, parenting a gifted or intense child, working through OCD, or adjusting to a change in your life. Or maybe there's no single thing you can point to. You simply know that something is not quite right.
At Rooted Counselling Services , therapy starts with understanding what you're experiencing and what you'd like to be different. Together, we can make sense of what's going on and find practical ways forward.
Mental Health Support for Different Parts of Life
Every person brings a different story to therapy. Some experiences also come with their own challenges and may benefit from a more focused approach. At Rooted Counselling, I offer support in several areas:
Stress & Burnout
When work, family, responsibilities, or life changes start taking more energy than you have to give, it can be difficult to find your way back to balance.
Therapy can help you understand what's contributing to your stress and develop practical ways to manage what's on your plate.
OCD & ERP Therapy
If intrusive thoughts, compulsions, checking, reassurance-seeking or the need for certainty are taking up too much of your time and energy, you don't have to keep managing the cycle on your own.
CBT and ERP can help you understand OCD patterns and practice different ways of responding to them.
Parents of Gifted & Intense Children
Parenting a gifted or intense child can be incredibly rewarding and sometimes incredibly demanding. If you're feeling overwhelmed, exhausted or unsure how to support your child while also looking after yourself, therapy can give you space to work through those challenges.
Therapy for Aviation Professionals
Aviation comes with schedules, responsibilities, performance expectations and pressures that can be difficult to explain outside the industry.
Therapy can provide a place to work through stress, fatigue, career changes and the challenge of maintaining your wellbeing alongside a demanding career.
Ways We Can Work Together: Our Approach to Counselling
The approach we use depends on what you're experiencing, what you'd like to work on, and what feels useful to you.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Accelerated Resolution Therapy
ART offers a structured way to work through difficult experiences and memories that may still affect how you feel or respond today.
PhotoTherapy
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy
CBT can help you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and develop practical ways of responding to difficult situations.
Sometimes an image can help express something that is difficult to put into words. PhotoTherapy uses photographs as a starting point for exploring emotions, memories, relationships and experiences.

Meet Lara, Trusted Therapist in Calgary SW
My path to counselling has taken me through several different environments, including photography and hospital settings. Each experience taught me something about people, communication and how important it is to look beyond what's immediately visible. I'm also a parent, including a parent of gifted and intense children. That experience has given me a personal understanding of some of the challenges that can come with parenting a child who experiences the world differently.
Today, I work with people from different backgrounds and walks of life who are looking for support with stress, burnout, OCD, difficult experiences, parenting challenges, relationship issues and other situations that can leave them feeling stuck or overwhelmed.
My approach is practical, supportive and tailored to the person sitting in front of me. You don't need to have the right words or know exactly what you need before we begin. We can figure that out together.
What Makes Rooted Counselling Different
Becoming a therapist wasn't my first career. I spent more than 20 years working as a professional photographer before moving into healthcare, where I worked as a patient coordinator with AHS. Along the way, I also became a parent to children who are bright, intense, and wonderfully complex.
Each of these experiences has shaped the way I work with people today. They’ve taught me to listen carefully, look at the bigger picture, and understand that there’s often more going on beneath the surface.
I know that life can sometimes feel like a lot to hold, whether it's the demands of parenting, a high-pressure career, stress and burnout, or simply trying to keep everything together while still finding space for yourself.
My goal is to off er a therapy experience that feels practical, supportive, and genuinely human. Sessions are available in person in SW Calgary or virtually across Alberta.
